Nine years had passed since we last saw Jesse and Celine, the French-American couple who had met on a train in Vienna. They now lived in Paris with their twin daughters, but had spent a summer in Greece at the invitation of a fellow author of Jesse's. When the vacation ended and Jesse had to send his teenage son to the United States, he began to question his life decisions, and his relationship with Celine was at risk.
